The Institute is committed to the need to expand the number of qualified saddle fit experts across the nation. To this end the Institute carefully selects and educates individuals interested in becoming professional saddle fitters. The program and training are quite extensive.  Not only are saddles and their fit covered but much about the horse itself.

The saddle fit apprentice program delves into proactively properly fitting saddles. The apprentices are taught subjects such as:

  • How to discuss saddle fit problems with owners, veterinarians and manufacturers.
  • Horse anatomy and problems that improper saddle fit can cause.
  • How to diagnose physical problems related to saddle fit.
  • Recommended changes that can improve the saddle fit and horses’ health.
  • Educational techniques to be used working with owners and manufacturers.
  • How to conduct periodic saddle and horse evaluations.
  • Latest updates in saddle fit and appropriate equine research.
  • Maintaining saddle fit records and client database.
  • Techniques for correcting ill fitting saddles.
Additionally the apprentices enter into a six-month, hands on, apprenticeship to give them working experience dealing with saddle fit problems and how to communicate their solutions.

Those who receive certification from the American Institute of Saddle Fitting are able to continue educating horse owners and veterinarians in their area reaching even more people.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about this or any of our programs, please feel free to contact us or fill out our Educational Program Interest form and we'll contact you.
