Saddle Fit Apprenticeship

Public Awareness

Contact Us

Veterinarians are increasingly becoming aware of the impact of improperly fitted saddles on the health of their equine patients.  This seminar program is designed to help equine veterinarians in understanding the full dimensions of the subject.  Specific topics addressed are:
  • Horse anatomy and problems that improper saddle fit can cause.
  • How to diagnose physical problems related to saddle fit.
  • Evaluating tack and saddle manufacturers’ products.
  • Recommended changes that can improve the saddle fit and horses’ health.
  • How to communicate with horse owners about their saddle fit problems.
  • Clinical case studies in saddle fit problems and solutions.
  • Myths about saddle fit and how to correct them.

Typically, equine veterinarians receive most of their information about saddles from the saddle manufacturers.  However, saddle manufacturers will not provide the necessary insights about properly fitting saddles, it is contrary to their economic well-being.  Characteristically the manufacturers build their saddles for the comfort of the riders and only secondary concern is given to the animal.

The Institute holds seminars for professionals directly and encourages them to attend the Horse Owner Education seminars to witness how the instruction can be applied to their patients’ owners.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about this or any of our programs, please feel free to contact us or fill out our Educational Program Interest form and we'll contact you.
